F-LANE is a six-week acceleration programme for five high-potential digital impact ventures focusing on female empowerment. After seven weeks of intensive coaching, workshops and mentoring, our fourth cohort has graduated on 21st November 2019. They were given the opportunity to meet cutting-edge tech start-ups that are truly making a difference for girls and women worldwide. At the beginning of the Demo Day, we – together with DLDaily and our Media Partner Focus Online – put together a great panel to discuss the potential of “Tech for Good”.

With around 280 start-ups from 62 countries, interest in a place in the F-LANE-Accelerator was greater than ever before. This year, start-ups and social ventures from India, Ghana, Nigeria, Great Britain and Germany prevailed. The five selected finalists presented their business models to investors and the start-up community at Demo Day. Before the pitches, start-up founders and investors discussed the potential of technology start-ups that focus on sustainability in a panel discussion. Tech for Good plays a decisive role here – technology that addresses goals such as sustainability, health, gender equality or poverty reduction. People want to spend more and more of their money on products that contribute to these values,” said investor Mali Baum.

It’s only a matter of time before there is a social start-up the size of Google, which has comparable sales and “hopefully was founded by a woman”. It’s all about supporting each other and achieving global success. “We need that.”
Women are underrepresented in the start-up scene. It is much more difficult for them to reach capital and investors with their business ideas. This is also shown by current investment figures: Less than five percent of the invested capital goes to start-ups led by women in Europe and the USA.
